Hello Everyone!
I saw some comments of the old post, so I thought I'd say a vacation hello to you all. I just got back from an excellent day with my family and my friend who is visiting from CA. My dogs got a new, puffy dog bed, I got a GPS, which is perfect, as I get lost very easily, and I gave my friend Michael a Lego, which we put together after we opened everything. :) It was pretty awesome.
How about the rest of you? Is everyone excited about their week off? I AM! :) Don't forget to do your 5 nights of reading!! Do more if you can!
Hope you are all doing well!
:) Ms. Medler

Plimouth Field Trip
This is Emma and Tiffany writing and we're here to talk about our great field trip! (And our week.) Yesterday we went to Plimouth Plantation. It was great! We even went on a Peter Pan couch bus! We all loved the couch bus it was a lot of fun but most of all we loved Plimouth! We saw two different parts of Plimouth. The Wampanoag Village, and the Pilgrim Village. Ms.Medler's group was Tiffany, Emma, Cam T, Rudy, and Melissa. We met real Wampanoags, and talked to 17th century Pilgrim actors. (Danielle liked the lady making sausages.)When we went to the craft center we saw a guy making things such as wooden chairs and chests that you could win at a raffle. Next to his station was a lady making pots. We also got to interview some of them. It was WICKED fun.We also went to the meeting spot which was where they had school and meetings. Inside they had cannons.(Wouldn't it be fun to have a cannon of our own? >:D) And next up for auction is Eli, Alex, Dora, Danielle, Rudy, and Willy. Next week Emily will tell you about that.
Peace Out,

-- Bring a lunch and a snack. We will have time for both.
-- Do not bring any glass bottles.
-- NO ELECTRONICS are allowed! Your chaperone will take it away.
-- Cameras and cell phones ARE allowed. Cell phones must not be used at Plimouth.
-- Dress warmly! It will be cold out and we will be outside all day.
-- Wear comfortable shoes. We will be walking a lot.
-- Students are not allowed to purchase items at the gift shop.
Parents, if you have any last minute questions, feel free to email me, or stop by tomorrow morning!

THIS WEEK OF SCHOOL
HI OUR NAMES ARE JAIDEN AND ELIZABETH,
ON MONDAY WE DID SKITS ON VASCO NUNEZ DE BALBOA AND VASCO DA GAMA. WHAT DID YOU NOTICE ABOUT THE 2 NAMES? YOUR CORRECT THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME STARTING. VASCO DE GAMA AND VASCO NUNEZ DE BALBOA. ON TUESDAY WE FINISHED UP WRITING THE SKITS. ON WEDNESDAY WE STARTED PRACTICING THEM. ON THURSDAY WE STILL PRACTICED THEM.
Hello everyone-
This is Ms. Medler. Something happened with the computer at school, and Jaiden and Elizabeth were not able to finish. At any rate, your Vasco skits were FANTASTIC! I really enjoyed watching them, and appreciated the humor you put into the scripts! :) When we are done with the explorer unit, we are going to do more skits as a review. I see some real acting talent!
Homework this weekend is Study Link 3.5, and my Guided Reading class needs to read Ch. 5-6 in From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, and then do the chapter 6 activity sheet.
Have a great Halloween! See you Monday!
Love, Ms. Medler

October Starts NOW!!!
Last week was wicked busy!
Auction was supercalifragilisticexbialadoshis! The auction items were very expensive. (And Exciting!)
This week, these are the following who will be auctioning:
Shannon
Kayla
Rudy
Willy
Cam T.
Another thing that was exciting last week was 3 book reports on the same day!
Shannon & Emma did their book report on Sadako and The thousand paper cranes. Danielle did a book report on Helen Keller (She recommends it!), and Tiffany did a book report on Amelia Earhart. (She recommends her too!)
We also had a social studies test. We had to name each continent and ocean.
Last Wednesday was our September early realese day! We had families for the very first time this year!
In families we made welcome cards to our kindergarteners. We're VERY eager to see them next month for families!
On Thursday we had a substitute for portion of the day because Ms. Medler had somewhere to go.
Mrs. Traxler was our substitute. We watched a video called "Grammar Rocks." Unfortunately, the tape kept glitching on us. =/
We all got $425 respect bonus!!! :)
The homework tonight is study link 2.5, or math practice if you are in Ms. Hayes' group and reading response.
We hope everyone has a fabulous October! (Also, give Ms.Medler a cookie this week. Maybe we can bribe her into a 500 dollar respect bonus >:D) ***Hello, this is Ms. Medler. You may NOT bribe me with cookies! But good try.***
Thank you,
Danielle & Tiffany <3

all the things Ms. Medler's class has done this week
This week in Ms. Medler's we did some Viking papers on Monday. Ms.Medler had a meeting in the afternoon so Ms. Casey was subbing. The next day we got a half of a respect bounes witch is 250 (but the regular price is 500).Then on Wednesday we did more Viking papers. I learned that Erik the Red was a Viking leader also Leif Erikson was his son. Thursday we did this highlighting paper and we had to highlight most of the paper. Friday we started off with Ms. Medler going to a meeting and Mrs. Casey was the sub again. Ms. Medler came back during science. In science we had a test and we got to see static electricity. I also got to use a balloon. After science we went to the computer lab and did Study Island. Then we went to lunch and recess. After that we went to guided reading. Then we had Friday fun time (which is like choice time for 15 mins). After Friday fun time we had a math test. Lastly we got ready to go home.
**Hello! This is Ms. Medler! I want to thank Kyle for a great weekly report! I included some photos of today's science project. I also took a photo of the AWESOME cookie Elizabeth gave me. It was delicious! We had a math test today, so you can see I wore my lucky math shirt. :)
The HOMEWORK for the weekend is:
1. Vikings map paper
2. Science MCAS practice sheet. (You just need to label all the parts of the diagram. Find as many places to label as you can.)
3. Fundraise!
Thank you also to everyone who came to Back to School night. It is great to see so much parent support. If you were unable to attend, I sent home the information packet with your child.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

SUMMER!
Hello everyone!
Happy summer! I ran into Shanyce downtown today, so I thought I would put up a new post to say hello. I hope you are all relaxing and doing fun things, even though it has been so RAINY!!
I put these pictures of the dogs to make you smile. Jaylene gave me a stuffed animal dog on the last day of school, and apparently Happy and Aria have accepted it as a part of their pack. Aren't they cute?
Did anyone go see the fireworks for the 4th? I was going to go, but Happy is VERY afraid of fireworks noises, so I stayed home and let her hide on my lap under a blanket. :)
Hope you're all doing well. I miss you!
Love, Ms. Medler

SUPER FUN WEEK
Do you want to know why it is a super fun week? Of corse you do! Well, last night, we went to the PEM because our project was being presented! plus, some teacher there got some type of award. she was the art teacher at Bently school. There was a 1st grader that wrote a list about the top 5 things he learned at the measum. One of them was the tech guy didn't even know what all the buttons in the control panel did. Another one was that if you look at the paintings long an enough, you'll learn more about it.
The people at the measum let us explore everything, like the Ying Yu Tang house, The kids at the Witchcraftt Heights did some type of doncumentary about Alaska.Autumn, Amanda Eddy and Caylee did a skit in the auditorium in front of everybody. The skit was about the tea act and the stamp act. we had a lot of fun at the measum.
Tonight for homework, we have a Social Studies paper, and bring in props for the play.

Frazzled Ms. Medler

This is a picture of how I feel today! The end of the year is always a little hectic. :)
I was very proud of the work you all accomplished today. You spent a solid hour working on your skits, and I have to say, almost every single person was focused and productive! THANK YOU for being so good!
Today you got an invitation to the exhibition at the PEM for next week. Please remember to bring back your RSVP form by Friday. We need to give this information to our PEM contact so she can plan. I think it will be a very fun night.
Tomorrow is our LAST MCAS test! It is supposed to be a warm day, but hopefully the room will stay cool for the morning.
Have a good afternoon! You do not have homework tonight. You're welcome.

Two down, two to go

You have successfully made it through the math part of the MCAS! Congratulations! Next week we will have the 2 science tests, and then we'll be done!
We had a big talk about classroom behavior and respect yesterday. Today was an improvement, and I expect things to continue to improve. I am happy to say that some kids in our class earned a respect bonus today. I appreciate when I see you folks doing the right things. :)
We added fish and snails to the aquarium parts of our ecosystems this week and they have been fun to watch! Some of the fish had babies. They're really cute! Next we will be adding crickets and isopods to the terrarium. Yay!
Hope you all get some good rest tonight. See you tomorrow! DO YOUR HOMEWORK! (Study Link 10.8)

Don't forget that we will be having our Holes vocabulary test on Thursday instead of Friday. Study your words!!

Oh, thank goodness for Friday...
Well, we weren't too exciting with our posts this week, but I wanted to say a Friday hello to you all. I thought I'd include a photo from my trip to Mexico. There are some Mayan ruins in Tulum.
To the parents and families: I will be out next Thursday and Friday. I am going to Pennsylvania with some Junior National Honor Society students and Ms. Sartor, one of the 8th grade students for a JNHS conference. We are hoping to eventually incorporate some JNHS activities into the 5th grade at some point. I have arranged for the kids to have a substitute with whom they are familiar. Hopefully it will go smoothly.
Homework this weekend is a math MCAS practice. Please do your best job!
See you all on Monday!

Reading, Reading, Reading!
******************************
Hola From Mexico... Just kidding! Tonight's homework is a Reading Response that is due Thursday. Today was Read Across America Day so we had a really long read-in, and Mrs. Jaworski read two books about math to us. We also had an assembly in which we found out that our teachers like to dress up like Dr. Seuss characters. It was creepy. Then, a librarian read us the story Green Eggs and Ham". "It was very time-consuming", said an anonymous on-looker." Unfortunately, I ate the clown", said a certain slightly insane hypocrite (cough Noah Sax, cough.)
**This is Ms. Medler now. You two are very silly. Happy Dr. Seuss Day!**

Another Snow Day!
Hi everyone!
Happy snow day! I think we might be going to school until August at this rate! Ha ha! I'm actually bummed about having a snow day because I was looking forward to Read Across America Day. :( I am assuming that it is going to be canceled, which means tomorrow will be just a regular day. Sorry, guys! We will have to have a pajama day another time.
Don't forget that my guided reading group will be having a quiz tomorrow! Study your words!
Have fun in the snow!

Almost time to go back to school!
Hello again from sunny Mexico!
Today I thought of you folks up there in the snow as I ordered nachos on the beach and played in the waves! Ha ha! I hear you got about 5 inches of snow today??
While in Mexico I learned a little bit about different accents. Apparently the Spanish accent I have has more of a Dominican or Argentinian sound to it. This is probably because all of the Spanish I hear at school is mainly from Mrs. Hanton or kids from the DR! I will have to give you an example when I get back. The "y" sounds different. I was very proud of the way I was able to communicate, though! I think my Spanish is much improved!
I didn´t get to scuba dive because it was really windy, making the ocean too dangerous. That´s okay, though. I still had a good time.
I´m glad to hear some of you are getting your reading logs done! Can´t wait to see you all on Monday!
Love, Ms. Medler

I´m glad to hear some of you are getting your reading logs done! Can´t wait to see you all on Monday!

Ms. Medler in Mexico
¡Hola!
¿Como estan? I am here in Mexico, enjoying the sun and eating a lot of nachos. :) So far I have been able to visit the beach a few times, but have not been diving yet. My instructor wasn´t feeling well, so I think we are going to go out tomorrow. We are going to do some practice activities where I have to swim through square hula hoops without touching any part of it. I´m not sure how well I´ll do!
How have your vacations been going? Everyone getting to relax? I hope you are all READING! I have been reading a ton!
Hope all is well! See you very soon!
Love, Ms. Medler

Wow, vacation, Valentine's Day, Friday the 13th, and Mismatch Day! No wonder you guys were out of control! Hee hee! Just kidding. I think we had a pretty fun day, actually. The party was delicious, Science was full of creative ideas, and Coraline was spooky!
I hope you all have a fantastic vacation, and I will see you in 9 days! I'll write a few blog posts from Mexico and tell you what I'm up to!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Lucky, Lucky Me!
Wow! You all made my birthday very special! What I am most impressed with is the fact that this class was able to eat cake, brownies, and chips, have a quick, impromptu party, and then still be able to focus enough to do the math lesson! That takes SKILLS! You're terrific!
Ms. Hayes' reading group has to finish reading their pages and then complete the worksheet that goes along with it. There is no other assigned homework. :) My birthday gift to you!
Thank you very much for making me feel special and loved. I am lucky to be your teacher!

I smell a vacation coming up...
Hi everyone!
We didn't do a lot of blogging this week, so I thought I'd post some thoughts. It's been a little wacky with all the illnesses going through our classroom! Amanda's mom, thanks for letting us know about Amanda! She is not the only one who has been a victim of the Germs of Room 246. I'm going to have to disinfect every single doorknob, pencil, desk, and chair next week!
We had a great visit to the PEM on Friday. The people in my group had so many thoughtful questions and ideas....way to go! I got a good report from the other chaperons as well. We learned about propaganda, and saw some examples at the museum. The kids are going to have to create a piece of propaganda when we learn about the Stamp Act, the Intolerable Acts, and the Townshend Acts that happened during the American Revolution. They are going to have to protest one of these acts through the artistic medium of their choosing.
In math, we began unit 7, which is a very quick unit. It's all about exponents, powers of 10, and expanded notation. We should be able to finish it before vacation. I got some comments this week about math being FUN! Yay!
Is anyone going to see the ice sculptures downtown this weekend? I'm going to go check it out with Happy & Aria. They're excited to finally spend some time outside! Aria doesn't handle the cold very well. Even with a sweater, she shivers! Then we are going to visit my new niece. Then I promise to correct all of your tests! I pinky promise! :)
Hope you all are having a good weekend! Go outside! Run! It's going to be beautiful weather!!
-Ms. Medler
PS: One more week until vacation! Wooo Hooo!

Don't forget to keep working on your solar system projects this weekend! The due date is after vacation, but you don't want to save it all for the last minute.
See you next week,

Pajama Day!
*************
Today in class we are all doing auction. The people who are doing auction are seven people today. Today the Fifth and Fourth graders had Pajama Day (We love Pajama Day). In math we did fractions. The fractions were kind of hard and easy. For homework we have to do the Moon Log, research the planet that we chose, and then a Study Link 6.8.
There is no school tomorrow or Monday. Have a good long weekend!

Happy Wednesday!!!!

***********
Hey peeps! The webmasters today are... Shannon and Typo girl. Sorry we didn't make one yesterday. We didn't have time. In writing we did an onomatopoeia. An onomatopoeia is something that sounds like noise it is making. An example of an onomatopoeia is boom and thud. Yesterday the whole fifth grade went to a Planetarium. The Planetarium was very fun and cool. In the Planetarium we all saw the night sky with so many stars. Some of the stars had names like the Seven Sisters. That is all the time we have today.
Sincerely, Shannon and Typo girl! Bye!!!!!

Mmmm.....M & Ms
******************
Today in Math we all had to count M&Ms because we needed to find the percentage of the colors for the M&Ms. The teacher said that if we all are good in class we can eat some of the M&Ms and if did not do good she would eat all of the M&Ms by herself. We were all good so we all got M&Ms. For homework we have to do a study link 6.4 and look at the moon for our moon log. Also some of us have to bring a permission slip because we are going to a field trip tomorrow. The field trip will be fun because we will learn some cool things. At the end of the day we did Social Studies. In Social Studies we did a paper about New England. New England is where we live. New England is the most undetectable place. Well that is all the time I have to type.
Sincerely, Shannon and Shanyce
**Thanks, girls! You did a great job. Have fun looking at the moon tonight!

Happy Weekend!!!

Today in school we went to the P.E.M (Peabody Essex Museum). At the P.E.M we saw pictures and paintings of the Northern Lights. They where very prettyful. Then later we drew a picture of the north or south pole with pastels. My picture was with a polar bear, an iceberg and the Northern Lights. My assistant Shannon's picture had a polar bear no iceberg and the Northern Lights. I think both of our pictures came out very very cool. I (Jordan) had auction today, and I brought in a banana eraser and a grippie with a pencil. But I only got a $75.00 and Noah found a paper clip and auctioned that off. Then Ms.Medler gave him a red and white stripped paper clip to make it very prettyful. He got a larger amount of ledger dollars than me. His idea was worse than mine. I am so happy it's Friday and I can go home and relax. Shannon is also happy that it is the weekend. Well that's all the time we have so i am going to tell you the homework and then we are going to go tata (bye bye)
Our homework is...
. MCAS science review
. 3 moon logs
BYEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Jordan and Shannon

2 periods of math
Today we had 2 periods of math. I never ever want to hear the word math again. Today the webmaster Jordan and her assistant Jaylene were on our lovely teacher Ms. Medler's laptop and it was acting very weird. When we got on I typed in the title and I hit enter and it published the post. Then Jaylene accidentally minimized the page to the tool bar and there was no tool bar. It seemed like her computer didn't like us. During writing we did alliteration. In the paper we did William's full name was in the paper. During science we learned about the moon and lunar and solar eclipse. You can only look at the solar eclipse with special spectacles. But with the lunar eclipse you don't need special spectacles.
The homework tonight is...
.Read and Journal
. Study link 6.4
. Moon log
Thats all for now peoples. Ta Ta for now

Lots of New!
Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2009! We had a very exciting day today. We welcomed a new classmate, who is joining us from another school. It was really nice meeting him, and I know we are all looking forward to getting to know him better.
We began a new unit in math. This unit focuses on data collection, graphing, and statistical landmarks. Don't forget that you can use the online Student Reference Book if you want to!
In writing, we reviewed similes and created our own funny similes. Tomorrow we will move on to metaphors.
Tonight's homework is:
1. Study Link 6.1 (also: ask an adult about how many states he/she has visited!)
2. Observe the moon and fill in the log you received from Mr. Wood
See you all tomorrow!
-Ms. Medler :)
